Richard Lee Lightner January 25, 1948 - April 18, 2021

After a courageous battle with cancer, Richard (Dick) is at peace. A long fight it was, but he met it head on with a positive attitude. Always willing to do all it took to continue as normally as possible. He was a true warrior. Always a strong influence for those he loved and new friends he met along his very adventurous life. A very proud father, doting grandfather, and the absolute best husband a wife could ask for. He was so blessed to have had the opportunities he had and was very grateful for his wonderful family. Dick was employed at NCR for over 35 years. His dedication and work ethic move him up in the organization to become a very successful and respected employee. He was a great leader to those working for him. Preceding him in death was his father Everett Lightner and his nephew Zackery Staggs. Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 11 1/2 years, Linda, sons Scott (Martha), Jeffrey (Rebecca) and grandchildren Lauren, Elliott, Erin, and Mackenzie. Mother Jean Lightner, sisters, Joyce Staggs, Barb Schuh (Tom Marcellino), and Karen Hartings (Steve). Also, numerous nieces and a nephew and many friends. His puppy, Cooper, will also miss him. Dick was a blessing to Salem Bend Condominiums Community family where he worked as our Property Manager for a few years until his illness. The Community grew to love and respect Dick and his wife, Linda. Dick's compassion and care were truly exemplified when he showed up a couple of days after our Community was hit by the 2019 tornado to help us with the clean up. We will never forget his kindness. Rest in peace Dick and may God bless and comfort your family.

I am so sorry for the loss of a former classmate. I went to school with Dick from the 1st grade to 12th. He will always be remembered for his kindness and big smile that lit up his whole face. Dick's playful personality and love - for- life brightened our classroom and often kept the teachers on their toes! He will be missed and although I haven't seen him since HS days, Dick will always be remembered as a friend and part of our original class. My sympathies go to his wife and sons and families, as well as his mother, Jean, and his sisters. Much love and prayers for comfort during this difficult time.

Linda, Scott, Jeff -

We're so sorry for your loss. Dick was a rare, one of a kind man. I will never forget how welcoming he was, how he nurtured people and shared his kindness.

Way back in the 1990s when Scott and I became friends, I was introduced and Dick made me feel right at home. I was privileged to be invited to his home for family get togethers now and then and always felt kind of special to be included.

Dick openly shared his wisdom and interests. I reached out to him on occasion and he always responded; I recall him spending a day with me to help me understand boating; he went with me to pick up a boat and test drive it. He taught me everything there was to know about hitching it up, towing it, putting it into the water, operating it and getting it back on the trailer. And there was one occasion where he showed up with a battery to bail me and my family out when we were stuck on the water. Mary and I will never forget that; he showed up smiling, helped us out and never once made us feel silly for getting stuck.

Mary and I both spoke about Dick last evening- we can't think of a single occasion or encounter that he didn't present himself with grace and confidence. Every time we saw him he was upbeat, positive and smiling.

I know he's proud of his boys and he should be. Scott and Jeff are fine men and carry forward his qualities and are passing them along to their own. When it comes right down to it, there's not much more a man can ask of life.

With much love
Chuck and Mary
