Born on May 19, 1942, Richard was a man who lived simply and loved deeply. He had a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, and some of his fondest moments were spent at Lake Cumberland—fishing, relaxing, and soaking in the peaceful beauty of the water.
He had a passion for cars—he enjoyed buying, selling, building, and repairing them. Richard loved working with his hands, eyes, and mind—creating with wood, metal, or just about anything he could get hold of. A gun enthusiast with a knack for craftsmanship and hands-on projects, he found joy in the process of making and fixing things. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and never hesitated to speak his mind, with a wit that stayed sharp as a tack until the very end.
Known for his homemade moonshine and timeless storytelling, Richard especially cherished evenings around the bonfire at the lake house, swapping tales and sharing a beer with family and friends.
He was happiest with a fishing rod in hand, laughter echoing across the lake, and people he cared about nearby. His love for those around him ran deep, and he will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and steady presence in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved daughters, Robyn DiMichele and Charity Beery. He is survived by his wife, Laura Thatcher; his son, Richard Karl Thatcher, Jr.; his daughter, Becky Horton; and his son-in-law Jeffrey (Susan) DiMichele. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Olyvia (David) Ray, Brittany (Chris) Reeder, April Arnold, Michele Compton, Cody (Kaylee) Compton, Zachary (Kassi) DiMichele, Levi (Julia Littell) DiMichele, and Daryl (Bri) Stewart; and his adored great-grandchildren, Addyson, Grayson, Emyrson, Ellyson, Bryce, Wyatt, Gavin, Maxtin, Mila, Grayson, Ellie, Natalie, Ian, and Matthew.
