

Richard Anthony Thoma (Rat) went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2017 at Hospice of Dayton. Richard was born November 9, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Agatha (Doris) Thoma, sister Maryann Chambers. He is survived by his wife Brenda who he shared his life with for 30 years, married for 18 years. His son Tony (Melissa) Thoma, daughters Melissa (Jimmy Wiley) Thoma, Stephanie (Rob) Downing, and Amanda (Jimmy) Cecil. Richard had 11 grandchildren and 8up great grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his brother Bud (Judie) Thoma and sisters Doris Clarkson, Rita Davidson, and Betty (Bruce) Pinskey, several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. Richard was an army veteran and retired from Chrysler. He loved gardening and making memories with his grandchildren and friends in Florida. Richard was a very creative man and authored a community paper called the 8up Gazette. With his wife Brenda, they opened a restaurant called Thoma Gardens from 2002-2004, where family, friends, and neighbors would gather for a wonderful home cooked meal. Richard was a very humorous man who lived his life to the fullest. He was a joker, a smoker, and a midnight toker. Richard and Brenda hosted many parties. They always made everyone feel invited in their home, which was affectionately known as The Thoma Zone. Friends were always welcome to the famous full basement bar called The Rat’s Hole. Richard was loved by many. He will be greatly missed. Your love and memory will get us through. Until we meet again… The man, The Myth, The Legend. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 5 pm with memorial service to follow at 8 pm at the Tobias Funeral Home, Belmont Chapel, 648 Watervliet Ave. Final resting place at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton.
