Sorry to hear of the passing of your husband, father, and grandfather Whiz. We are the grandparents of Nick Royer who was coached by him graduating in 2008. We have fond memories of attending all of the soccer games we could and going to State. We were very proud when Nick made All State and we attended the celebration at OSU and shared a table with Whiz and Katie. Whiz was a very dedicated coach, fun to watch when he coached and and truly an Alter Knight.
Rest in Peace Whiz, we will all miss you, our sincere sympathy to Katie and all of the Ellis Family.
Sincerely,
Barry and Norma Roberts

I've known wiz for over 30 years. But the last 6 years have been the most fun I had with him as his varsity assistant coach. After Leaving my program at Bishop Fenwick, he brought me on board without hesitation. We had good runs on the soccer field and some unfortunate losses but that's part of the game. He was always looking out for me.
Four years ago, when school was out, wiz convinced me to work part time in the summer at Community golf course in Kettering. During those summers, I would see Wiz mowing the grass, driving around the Range Cart, and playing golf early in the morning. During work he would look for me to see what I was doing and when he found me or visa -versa, we would just chat up a storm and talk soccer and his beloved Manchester United-Im a Real Madrid fan so we always have spirited friendly arguments haha... I will miss him. He was a friend, colleague, father figure, and mentor. I love you Wiz, you will always be on my side. If things go the way you want it as you planned, I will keep Alter boys soccer continued success...AMEN!

My deepest sympathy to the Ellis family. As the Volunteer Administrator for the City of Kettering, I am so thankful to have known Bob as a dedicated volunteer who worked tirelessly year after year to assist folks with their tax returns. He touched so many lives by generously sharing the gifts of his expertise and time --- 11,122 hours to be exact! In his competitive nature, he always tried to complete more returns than the previous year. May your memories of Bob bring you peace and comfort.

Wiz was such a fun guy to talk to and be around. The amount of lives he has touched over the years and the joy he brought to kids who loved to play soccer will never be forgotten. Wiz was full of energy all the time and his humor was one of a kind. Even 15 years after playing for him, we could pick up right where we left off when I saw him around the Alter Community. He was a man of faith and a person that I will never forget. We love you Wizard, watch over all your players and your family!

Ellis Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Wiz was an amazing man and impacted the lives of so many people. His sense of humor and larger than life personality always put everyone around him in a great mood. He was the coach that I had the most fun playing soccer for. He was a fierce competitor, but he made the game fun for his players and allowed us to be ourselves. I am so thankful for the 4 years I was able to spend with him at Alter, as well as the time I spent with him and your family when we were away from soccer. My deepest condolences...

I did not really get know “The Wiz” until my late teen years but I soon learned who this man really was.
“The Wiz” was a great man. He loved his family and community dearly. He displayed this through his words and actions.
As serious of a man he was, he also had a great sense of humor and respectfully, he was highly entertaining. I have never forgotten the time spent in the Ellis household. These were great times.
“The Wiz” will always be loved and never forgotten. My condolences to the entire Ellis family.

Katie:
There are no words that can express the devastation I felt in learning of Bob's passing. My devastation can only pall in comparison to yours.
I think back to those days when he was the catcher for the Bruins Softball Team and I was the umpire. This is where we met. His coaching of my son Greg in basketball (boy did he have the patience of JOB) to our business relationship, the moments with Bob were all so precious to me.........he was a true friend....a real friend.
I think of the "WAR" stories we shared regarding soccer and officiating - something I will always cherish.
I know he is up there with the Wizard of Westwood, but he is meeting him all too soon.
Sandy and I send our prayers out to you , your sons and daughters, and your entire family. If there is anything at all we can do for you guys please let me know.
God bless and cherish Bob. He was my best friend and I will love him Forever.

Dear Ellis Family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Some people leave a lasting impression and influence you in a positive way. Your husband, father, and grandfather was one of those people in my life. I called him Mr. Ellis or Coach Ellis, but he was more than that to me. He was a father figure to a kid that didn't have one, and your family was so welcoming. I have so many fond memories of knee football in the family room with Bobby and Cam, soccer games, and EKRC Bruins basketball games with the girls in their cheerleading outfits. There were so many car rides to and from games and practices. Of course, he stepped up to help out a working mom raising a kid by herself. His passion for coaching and helping people be the best they can be was extraordinary. He may be gone from this earth, but his memory and legacy will not be forgotten.
Love,
Dan

When I think of Wiz, I cannot help but think of his BIG voice, even BIGGER heart. and even BIGGER love of his kids and grandkids. He was a BIG personality who was always giving, and when giving, he always gave 110%. I am honored to call him "bro". I'm sure his dad already has Bob helping him detail chariots in Heaven!!! I knew Wiz from playing softball in the Centerville Men’s Softball league played at Yankee Park, some 25 years ago. Wiz was an umpire in the league and was respected and admired by the players. Wiz always made it about the game and never himself. I don’t think Wiz even knew my given name, as he called me by my nickname Magic which my teammates used. Whenever we drew Wiz for a game we felt fortunate and knew it would be fun. Many years later my son Daniel had the great blessing of playing for Wiz at Alter. It would be one of the richest experiences of my sons life. Wiz was the consummate competitor and gentleman. I will mourn his loss, yet bear witness to his life. Sincere condolences to the Ellis family. Respectfully, Dan Allen
