Celebrations of Bob’s life will be held in Houston, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, at later dates, where family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Crayons to Classrooms, a Dayton-area nonprofit providing school supplies to teachers and students in need.
Bob was born February 24, 1946, in Dixon, Illinois, the son of A. James and Rose Marie (Haidl) Gemignani. He graduated from Alleman High School and the United States Air Force Academy, Class of 1969, later earning his master’s degree from the University of Colorado. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
An entrepreneur at heart, Bob founded and developed numerous companies during his career, most notably Vertical Systems Incorporated (VSI). Curious, determined, and always looking ahead, he enjoyed solving problems, embracing new technology, and turning ideas into opportunities. Throughout his life, he remained especially proud of his Air Force Academy education, classmates, and friendships.
Bob and his wife of 29 years, Paulette Gemignani, made their home in Houston, Texas, before moving to Centerville, Ohio, in June 2026. Above all, Bob treasured his family. He especially loved being “Big Bob” to his five grandchildren, taking great joy in encouraging them, celebrating their accomplishments, making them laugh, and watching them grow.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, A. James and Rose Marie Gemignani, and his brother, Tom Gemignani.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette Gemignani; his siblings, Janice (Donald) Britton, Deborah (Bob) Gemignani-Gomez, Karen (Terry) Hackett, and Lisa (Curt) O’Neill; his stepchildren, Trinette (Brian) James and Chuck (Marlena) Kays; and his grandchildren, Brylen and Jordyn James, and Christian, Landon, and Benjamin Kays.
Bob lived his life looking forward—to the next idea, the next adventure, and the next gathering of family and friends. His greatest legacy will be the family and friends he loved, encouraged, and influenced along the way.
