To the family of Roy Carr! I am so sorry to here of his passing.I truely addored Roy.He was as of a papaw to me.I worked with him at poppy mt for a few yrs and it was a pleasure to do so.He will be sadly missed.

Roy we loved you and looked forward to seeing you every year on Poppy Mountain.  I could hear your music from your golf cart from just about any spot on the mountain.  I loved that sound.  I knew you would have some candy and bubble gum for me. And always a big hug.  We will miss you so much.  Happy Poppy.

An old man, probably some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the park bench. He didn't move, just sat with his head down staring at his hands. When I sat down beside him he didn't acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if he was OK.
Finally, not really wanting to disturb him but wanting to check on him at the same time, I asked him if he was ok. He raised his head and looked at me and smiled. â€œYes, I'm fine, thank you for asking,â€ he said in a clear strong voice. â€œI didn't mean to disturb you, sir, but you were just sitting here staring at your hands and I wanted to make sure you were OK?â€ I explained to him. â€œHave you ever looked at your hands?â€ he asked. â€œI mean really looked at your hands.â€ I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I turned them over, palms up and then palms down. No, I guess I had never really looked at my hands as I tried to figure out the point he was making.
Then he smiled and related this story: Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have, how they have served you well throughout your years. These hands, though wrinkled, shriveled and weak have been the tools I have used all my life to reach out and grab and embrace life:
They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I crashed upon the floor. They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. As a child my mother taught me to fold them in prayer. They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots. They dried the tears of my children and caressed the love of my life. They held my rifle and wiped my tears when I went off to war. They have been dirty, scraped, swollen and bent. They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn son. Decorated with my wedding band they showed the world that I was married and loved someone special. They wrote the letters home and trembled and shook when I buried my parents and spouse and walked my daughter down the aisle.
Yet, they were strong and sure when I dug my buddy out of a foxhole and lifted a plow off of my best friend's foot. They have held children, consoled neighbors, and shook in fists of anger when I didn't understand. They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body. They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried and raw. And to this day when not much of anything else of me works real well these hands hold me up, lay me down, and again continue to fold in prayer.
These hands are the mark of where I've been and the ruggedness of my life. But more importantly it will be these hands that God will reach out and take when he leads me home. And He won't care about what these hands look like but what they have done. What He will care about is to whom these hands belong and how much these hands have helped others. With these hands He will lift me to His side and there I will use these hands to touch the face of God.
No doubt I will never look at my hands the same again. I never saw the old man again after I left the park that day but I will never forget him or the words he spoke. When my hands are hurt or sore or when I stroke the face of my children or my spouse, I think of the man in the park. And I thank God for my hands.

Roy I have tried 3 times now to submit my entry and each time it does not appear only my name,,But only you and I knew the Relationship as Friends we had on Poppy Mountain, You were my Best Friend,,I Loved you Dearly my friend & you knew it,,,I will never forget you.

 Rachel I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad..Know that you and your Family are in my thoughts..As I do with my Mom you will always have the great memories you shared with your Parents to help you get through..They can never be taken away

Roy there will never be anyone to replace the Friendship that we shared,,Poppy will never be the same without you my friend, I loved you dearly, Greg & Bev you are in our thoughts and Prayers,,we are coming for Tomorrow Nights Viewing we love you.

Mr Carr is one of those people who is irreplaceable, his presence lite up the room.  I feel so fortunate to have known him.  Thank you Rachel for continuing his visits, we all loved him at Visionmskers.

Greg,  we all hope that you know how much everyone looked forward to getting to the top of the hill at Poppy and seeing your dad sitting in his rocking chair or cruising on his golf cart.......please remember that we all loved him...

Terry and I got to know Roy on Beautiful Poppy Mountain!  The mountain will not be the same without his smiling face and bluegrass music being played on his golf cart!  RIP Roy!

Roy, was my special friend whose smile and kindness will never be forgotten.  My heart goes out to the family and friends who knew him.  He will be missed!!

Roy, we will miss you so much,I became friends with you at poppy mtn. many years ago.enjoyed the laughs we had the many wonderful  talks ,and  rides on your golf cart, and listening to your music playing on your cd playergoing to miss all of this .. Dear Jim, Rachel Greg and famalies, my heart goes out to you. I want you to know how very much I love your Dad and Mom . I remember all the fun times we had singing bluegrass music and just being together as family. I will never forget our camping trips to rockcastle river. So much fun and laughter. The last time I talked to Aunt Margie we were planning us a trip to go fishing. I wish it could have happened. I was always so excited to see Uncle Roy . My Mom always looked forward to her box of candy. I love all of you so much. I wish I could reach out and put my arms around you and hold you tight. My love and prayers are with you. Please call me and lets plan a reunion. Genny sends her love Rachel she said to tell you you are in her prayers. I promise I will be making home candy and taking it to shut ins with a card stating it is in memory of my beloved Uncle Roy. I love you all so much.
