Russell LeRoy Hodge passed away peacefully on October 26th, 2026, ironically his 34th wedding anniversary. He was born in Chicago in 1942, and was all about his home city. His biggest excitement came in 2016 when the Chicago Cubs won the World Series! He is survived by his wife Gail (Knudtson), Children, Renee Wascisin (Michael) and Kevin Dodge (Frances), Grandchildren Jacob Wascisin (Emily) and Sarah Huerta (Jose), and Great-Granddaughter Aurora Iris Huerta.
Russell was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, serving over 21 years, and retiring in 1984 from the Pentagon. His dedication to his country was second to none, including serving in the Vietnam War. Like Steve Martin and John Candy, he was a huge fan of planes, trains, and automobiles. Including his love for all airplanes in the Air Force and beyond, he was a miniature train enthusiast, and was proudly involved in the greater Dayton Corvette Club.
Russ and Gail loved to travel together, enjoyed their many dinner and dance clubs, and even shared the love of cycling. Fun fact, they met while cycling! Russ’ biggest cycling accomplishment was a trip all the way from Fairbanks, Alaska to Anchorage in 1974. To this day, he will had his 1972 Schwinn Paramount that he cared for thoroughly.
He will be missed by his family and dear friends, but his legacy will live on…
