Shirley Mae Fields

She was born February 1, 1939, in Onego, Pendleton County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Vernon C. Adamson and Pearl (Morral) Adamson, she was a 1956 graduate of Circleville High School and a 1957 graduate of Strayer Business College in Washington D.C.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for H.H. Cupp Furniture Co, in Elkins, WV after returning from Washington D.C. She met her husband David while he was a student at Davis and Elkins College, and they were married in 1959. They left West Virginia after David graduated to embark on a 23-year career in the Air Force.

Their Air Force journey together took them to bases in Georgia, Florida, Texas, Nebraska (twice), Maryland, California, England U.K., and Ohio. She was always very involved as an Air Force wife. She was an Air Force Family Services volunteer and held several elected offices within the Officer’s Wives Clubs at several of the bases her husband and family were stationed. She was also very active in church and chapel activities and organizations.

She enjoyed yardwork and gardening and earned several “Yard of the Week” awards while the family resided in on base housing. She was an avid fan of several college teams due to the family’s travels. She rooted for Ohio State, Nebraska, and West Virginia. She was also a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals.

Shirley is survived by sons Timothy and Derek; daughter-in-law Laurel; grandsons Jonathan (Angie), Joshua, Brian, Bradley, Kevin and Kyle; great-grandson Jackson and great-granddaughter Gabby. She is also survived by a sister Phyllis Ruddle of Franklin, WV and a brother-in-law Robert Fields of Elkins, WV and a number of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday August 1, 2026, at Spinning Road Baptist Church, 538 Spinning Road, Riverside, OH. Memorials may be made to Spinning Road Baptist Church or to Tunnel to Towers 2361 Hyland Blvd Staten Island, NY 10306.
