

Shirley Hummel Maranda, age 88 of Dayton and Sarasota, FL, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born in Dayton on May 19, 1935, the daughter of the late Roy and Elizabeth Watson Denlinger and sister to the late Norman Denlinger. Upon graduating from Patterson CO-OP High School in Dayton she was an executive secretary for The National Cash Register Co. She later worked for Carson and Carson Attorneys, Scott Bowers, Clinical Psychologist, Secretary to the Headmaster of The Miami Valley School, a bookkeeper for Adrian Construction, and Executive Secretary to three partners of the Touche Ross Accounting Firm, until she moved to Sarasota, FL in 1979.
She became interested in photography and soon had her own photography business, Hummel Photography, which she ran for more than 20 years. She survived Melanoma in 1985. Shirley was a talented pianist and combined her music and photography to entertain private organizations and clubs in and around Sarasota. Upon retiring from photography she worked at the Bay Village of Sarasota for more than 11 years using her talents in photography, music and secretarial skills to assist the residents. However, she considered her greatest accomplishment in life to be her two children and their families. She is survived by her son, Jeff Rost and his wife Pam of Memphis, TN, her daughter, Jean Travis and husband Bradley of Dayton, OH, as well as five granddaughters, 4 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Roger Denlinger and wife Margi of Anoka, MN and five nieces and nephews. She will be laid to rest with her parents in Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
