Hall, Spencer Joseph born July 7, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023 in Kettering, Ohio. He is survived by his partner Linda Pugh, brother Michael Hall and his family, a sister Colleen Johnson, cousin Jeff Bradford and his family, lifelong friend Bob Grissom, and his two beloved furry kids who gave Spencer many happy moments. Predeceased by his parents Laura (nee Bradford) and Joseph Hall, an infant brother Joseph Lawrence, a stillborn son whose loss Spencer carried for all his adult life, and his like-a-brother cousin, William “Billy” Newland.
Spencer attended the University of Minnesota as an undergrad and went on to earn a Master of Urban Administration from Wright State University. He spent his career in the planning department of the City of Beavercreek, years that coincided with tremendous growth in the city. Like too many people, Spencer did not find his professional role particularly rewarding and his closest friends teased him about missing his true calling as a weatherman. He was interested in documentaries about extreme weather, and shows such as Ice Road Truckers. Spencer’s favorite hobbies included playing guitar, various forms of martial arts, photography, Irish history, and competitive trap shooting (he competed in the Grand American for many years). He loved Van Gogh’s paintings, red Mustangs, live music, the Tour de France, and the land of his ancestors, Ireland.
Although Spencer preferred to avoid medical settings, he was appreciative of the excellent care he received from several doctors, most particularly Dr. Zachary D. Denka and Dr. Malek M. Safa. A special thank you to the cardiac ICU and critical pulmonary care team at Kettering Health Main for their gentle, compassionate care during Spencer’s last days, and to Dr. Salman S. Razi for being a familiar face at a difficult time and keeping the most important promise.
Spencer wished for some of his ashes to be scattered at a favorite park in Cincinnati, scene of great memories and youthful shenanigans. Part of him will also rest with Billy at Arlington National Cemetery, and he will return to the west coast of Ireland one last time. In his memory, donations may be made to one of Spencer’s preferred charities: Irish American Partnership (irishap.org), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, World Central Kitchen, or the National Brittany Rescue & Adoption Network (NBRAN).
