GAYDA, Sylvia Frances, age 90, died Sunday, May 24th, surrounded by family. Sylvia, loving wife of the late George Gayda for 45 years, devoted her life to her family and her community, lovingly raising her three children, Nancy Koski (Frank), Claudia Schuette (Mike), and George Gayda (Shari), and sharing her wisdom with her entire extended family. Sylvia, known as Supergram, has eight grandchildren, Lori Erdelyi (Rob), Frank Koski, Meredith Haataja (Jim), Christopher Schuette (Melissa), Mark Schuette (Kaitlan), Ryan Stockhoff, Matthew Stockhoff, and Burke Gayda, and five great-grandchildren, Michael, Julia, Will, Megan, and Colton. Born on November 4, 1924, Sylvia married George on November 17, 1945 in Chicago. In addition to raising her three children, Sylvia also devoted much of her life to charity. An active member in the TWIG 10 organization for several decades, Sylvia cared deeply about engaging in work that directly impacted Dayton Children’s Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Supergram will forever be endeared to her family as a firm, yet gentle, leader who bonded her family in an unbelievable way. Holidays were spent with her home filled with family who travelled from three states and as far away as Europe. Her ability to single handedly create unforgettable meals during these gatherings through her 89th year is simply remarkable, and no one has yet to be able to quite replicate her most perfect cookies. Sylvia was blessed to be able to travel with her husband and family, and wherever she went, she was most certainly unforgotten. At Christmas, her mail would overflow with cards and well wishes from those who loved her, far and wide, and she was equally loved by those fortunate to live near her. Sylvia had the gift of optimism, and no matter the card dealt, she had the ability to find the positive in any situation. She will be remembered as a blessing to her family and community. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 28th, 2015 from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429.
