Ted Allan Heckendorn, April 27, 1955 – January 2, 2020, went to be with his Lord and Savior after an enduring battle with pancreatic cancer at age 64. He was the eldest son of the late Edward B. Heckendorn Jr. and Margaret “Peg” Heckendorn, a 1973 graduate of Wooster High School and a 1977 graduate of Wittenberg University. He completed medical school (1981) and pathology residency (1984) at The Ohio State University School of Medicine and practiced pathology in Marion, OH from 1984-1997. He was passionate about teaching and was a professor of biological sciences at Sinclair Community College from 2000 through 2018 and an adjunct professor of laboratory medicine at Wright State University.
Ted was an avid reader, photographer, model train and airplane enthusiast and traveler. He and his family visited the forty-eight contiguous states and several European and Asian countries. Ted especially enjoyed traveling “out west” with his colleagues to learn more of its history and behold its beautiful landscapes. Above all, Ted was a dedicated husband, father, loyal friend, and follower of Christ.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Ann (Wagenhofer); daughters Emily (Christopher) Raftopoulos and Kathryn Heckendorn; unborn grandson; and brother Steven (Monica) Heckendorn, and nephew Wesley Heckendorn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org).
