

Terry Lee Barnes, age 70, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on November 6, 2024. Born on July 24, 1954, Terry was known for his humor, wit, and loving nature, making everyone around him feel cherished and valued.
Terry proudly served in the Navy from September 24, 1974, until September 24, 1978, dedicating four years to serving his country with honor. After his military service, he built a diverse career, initially engaging in sales, then working as a machinist, and eventually supervising production and inspection where he was respected for his work ethic and leadership.
Terry grew up in the surrounding area and graduated from Dixie High School in 1972 where he began to shape his future. Beyond his professional life, Terry was deeply committed to volunteering at the Dayton VA, emphasizing his lifelong dedication to fellow veterans. His commitment to physical fitness and spending quality time with his family were central to his life, reflecting his values of health, family, and service.
Remembered for his charismatic personality, Terry was a talkative and giving individual, always ready with a joke or a helping hand. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his siblings, Larry, Thomas, Gary, and William Barnes; his children, Nichole Lee (Tom) and Kimberly Shellhammer (Dave); and his cherished grandchildren, Madison Lee (Joey Smedley), Carver Lee, Jacob Gearhart (Destiny), Kayla Barnes (Skyler Deeter), and Brittney Goley. His niece Rachel Riek (Art), and great-grandchildren, Paisley Schulke, Cheyenne, Lane, Dean Gearhart, and Jackson Bourne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Franklin Barnes and Julia Mae Barnes, his sister Shirley Collins, and his brother Donald Barnes.
Terry's life was marked by his generosity, laughter, and the deep bonds he formed with those around him. His loss deeply resonates with all who knew him and he will be profoundly missed.
Services will be held graveside at the Dayton VA at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 26 with a Celebration of Life to follow at the American Legion Post #668, 8220 N Dixie Dr., from 4pm-7pm.
