Terry "Butch" McCune passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 86, after a brief illness. He was born on September 3, 1939, to the late Kenneth and Carrie McCune, in Dayton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Darlene (Shafer) McCune. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie McCune Day, son Scott (Jen) McCune, and grandson, Zack McCune, sister Nancy (Bruce) Robinson, Sister-in-Law Sherry McCune and numerous special nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sisters Marilyn “Randy” (Dick) Beisel, Shirley “Cook” (Don) Parks, Diann (Bill) Lipps and brother Larry “Cork” (Patricia) McCune.
Butch graduated from Wilbur Wright High School, Dayton, OH. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 - 1965 1st BN 13th Inf APO 34 U.S. Forces, he was deployed in Germany. He retired from General Motors in 1997 after 32 years.
Butch was a devoted husband, father and proud grandpa. He was known for his kind heart and generosity, always thinking of others before himself. He was deeply loved by his children and cherished by countless others whose lives he touched. His presence left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Butch and Darlene enjoyed traveling and exploring the country after his retirement. He loved his family dearly and was always there for everyone, no matter what might be needed. He was a talented athlete and enjoyed playing softball, bowling and loved fishing. He was a fixture at Eastview Recreation Center for decades. He volunteered countless hours to keep the pool and property looking in tip top shape, ensuring a great experience for all who enjoyed the facilities.
Butch always enjoyed watching sports, but nothing brought him more joy than sitting in the stands watching his grandson, nieces, and nephews compete on the fields and the courts! You could always count on him to be proudly cheering on the team!
Butch will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation for Butch will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, with a memorial service starting at 6:30, at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd, in Beavercreek, OH.
