Tom Finke: Tobias websiteThomas L Finke, 96, of Kettering, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 27 at home surrounded by family. Tom was born on December 7, 1925, in Dayton to the late Herbert and Rose (Gosiger) Finke. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Herb, Jim and Paul and his sister, Virginia (Finke) Zahn. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Betty (Frost) Finke, his 5 wonderful children, Tom (Mami Yamamoto) Finke, Mark (Marie Ramer) Finke, Mindy (Tom) Hemmelgarn, Julie Finke and Ellen (Mike) McCarthy, his 2 grandchildren, Jessie (Bryan) Fletcher and Chris (Kaylyn Fisher) Hemmelgarn and his great granddaughter, Gemma Fletcher. Tom graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor's degree in Business and joined his brothers running the Finke Company, which their dad left to them. The four brothers expanded the business and created a second new company, Pharm-O-Spot. Both companies were non-foods distributors conducting business with local and regional stores and accounts. Tom was an avid fisherman and people lover. Also known as “Mr. Wonderful”, Tom’s never-ending sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met. He was a member of the Spring Run Trout Club and enjoyed many Thursday nights with his fishing buddies. Tom also traveled to Costa Rica, Mexico and all across the US on many memorable fishing trips. Tom’s love of God and people led him to volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital bringing the Eucharist to the sick. His devotion and kind heart were evident to all. A private family ceremony will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Monday, August 15 at 11:00am to bury Tom. Tom’s family will receive friends on Monday, August 15 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Tobias Funeral Home Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45429. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at 11:00am at St. Henry Catholic Church, 6680 N. Springboro Pike, Dayton, Ohio 45449, with Fr. Tom Shearer, celebrant.
