Thomas Michael Jenkins

Thomas Jenkins (74) peacefully passed away on July 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Tom lived a life of integrity, leadership, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was a respected financial executive, educator, mentor, and friend. Tom graduated from Piqua Catholic High School in 1970. He earned his bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1974 and later received a master's degree in economics from Wright State University, laying the foundation for a distinguished career. He began his professional career in 1975 as an economic analyst for the City of Dayton, in 1976, he joined Dayton Power and Light, where he served with distinction for two decades, ultimately becoming Chief Financial Officer before retiring in 1996.

From 2000 to 2010, Tom served as CFO of Wilmington College he then joined Wright State University as director for the master's in economics program, where he also taught graduate courses, becoming especially known for his global banking course. Above all, his greatest joy was his family.

Tom delighted in being an involved father, coaching his daughters in sports, teaching them to fish, and turning family dinners into memorable lessons in economics. He was a gifted storyteller, known for showing up when least expected and for bringing the party in the car. His unwavering loyalty to family and friends, along with his infectious enthusiasm, warmth, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He survived by his wife Betsy, his daughters Abigail Jenkins and Charlie Sliemers, Jamie Carey and Jeff Carey, Robyn Newman and Geoff Newman, Kelsey Jenkins and Brett Stewart, and his seven cherished grandchildren, Carson Max, Heidi, Dashell, Zoe, Archie, and Jay, his brother David Jenkins, and sister Anne Hoersten.

He was preceded in death by parents Thomas and Mary, brother Michael Jenkins, and nephew David Hoesten.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Wright State University or Ohio Wesleyan University, in honor of Tom’s lifelong commitment to education.

A visitation will be held on August 20th from 9:30 – 10:30 am at St. Luke Catholic Church Beavercreek, Ohio. A mass of Christian Burial will follow starting at 10:30 am.
