

Thomas Thomas (Tom) Owen Poppenhouse, 68, died peacefully surrounded by his family on January 4, 2022. He was born and raised in Akron, Ohio where he attended the University of Akron for undergraduate and law school. He later went on to complete his Masters in Law and Taxation at Boston University. He met the love of his life, Sharon and married her in 1974. They had 4 children together and lived in Texas and Indiana before finally settling in Centerville 30 years ago. Tom was a CPA for many years before starting his own business, Tax Refund Consultants, with Sharon in 1996.
Tom was an Eagle Scout who loved hiking, traveling, and spending time outdoors. He was always down for a game of tennis or golf, and he loved watching sports, mostly his Ohio State Buckeyes and UD Flyers.
Tom was a kind, funny, loving, hardworking man who will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Poppenhouse, and his sister, Linda Poppenhouse. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Poppenhouse, his wife, Sharon, his children, Laura (Zac) Welin, Elizabeth Poppenhouse (Brandon Sander), Tommy Poppenhouse (Keith Mazanec), Kathleen (David Arenstein), his grandchildren, Poppy Welin, Levi Sander, Louie and June Arenstein. He is also survived by his siblings Rick Poppenhouse, Patty Muehlheim, Kathy Conrad, Sarah Poppenhouse, Larry Poppenhouse.

Visitation will be held from 2:00PM-4:00PM on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45429. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 10:30AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike Centerville, OH 45459. The family respectfully requests that all guests wear masks.
