

Thomas L. Young “LaRue”, (94) of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away September 8, 2015 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Beavercreek, OH. He was born March 25, 1921 in Adams County, OH to the late Ora and Aura Young. Thomas served 3 years in the United States Army during WWII in Europe. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Eleanor (Roush) Young. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Allen Young, the following brothers and sister, Eugene “Gene”, Frank “Short”, Hazel (Bill) Plummer, Oren “Pete”, Joe and Wayne Young . Thomas is survived by children; Steven (Carol) of Katy, TX, and Susan Adams of Beavercreek, OH; grandchildren, Lori (Gary) Bolen, Amy (Corey) Waldman, Justin Adams, Gabrielle Young, Thomas (Jennifer) Martin; five great grandchildren, Rachel Waldman, Jordan and Cameron Bolen, Ashley and Zachary Martin He is also survived by sisters, Blanche Grooms and Edith Roebuck and brother, Donald Young.
Tom was born into a farming family having six brothers and three sisters. He began his life working the family farm and later drove a huckster truck, selling vegetables to surrounding families. He served in Europe during WWII and saw places and things he never imagined. After moving to Dayton he married Eleanor and worked at Wright Patterson AFB. He later drove a Greyhound bus, sold cars and trucks and retired after 25 years with NCR Corporation in Dayton, Ohio at the age of 55. Retirement wasn’t for him so he took a position in the garden center at Walmart since gardening was always a passion. He retired for the second time, from Walmart, at the age of 82. He was a little league baseball coach, belonged to the Beaver Valley Masonic Lodge and was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan.
His memorial service will be held at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45432, Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 3 PM. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 PM until the time of the service on Saturday. Interment will be at Cherry Fork Cemetery in Adams County.
