

Trudy Cheryl Harrigan, age 76, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Travelers Rest, SC on July 2, 2026. Born Trudy Carter on October 13, 1949 in Lewistown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Carter, Jr. and Helen (Hite) Carter. She was a 1967 graduate of Rothrock High School in McVeytown, PA. As a member of the U.S. Air Force and Ohio Air National Guard, she served her country in Thailand and various locations around the U.S. After being honorably discharged in 1982, she continued to live a life of service, working in various Department of Defense support capacities and later volunteering at hospitals and animal shelters in the Dayton, OH area. She loved caring for her cats and spending time with family and friends. She had a special gift for connecting with children, including many nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her son, James (Julie) Harrigan II; brother, Steven (Cathy) Hite; sisters-in-law, Deb Carter, Paula Reading, Colleen (Timothy) Barger, Robyn Flohre, and Jillaine Harrigan; and brothers-in-law Michael (Sandra) Harrigan, Kevin (Cheryl) Harrigan, Timothy (Denise) Harrigan, Brian (Jana) Harrigan, and Christopher (Heidi) Harrigan.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James "Lew" Harrigan; brothers, Arthur Carter III and Kerry (Pam) Carter; sister-in-law, Karen Harrigan; and brothers-in-law Terrance Harrigan and Ronald Harrigan.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home – Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton Xenia Rd, Dayton, OH 45432; a memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM. A committal service at Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana, OH will be held at a later date, at the convenience of the family.
