Vincent J Chalecki

CHALECKI, Vincent J., age 89 of Kettering, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at his residence. Vince was born on July 12, 1921 in Dayton to the late Vincent and Agnes Bedowsky Chalecki. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen M. Underwood Chalecki; his sisters, Sue Pickett-Laidley and Rose Marie Hall; and his brothers, Ben Chalecki, Frank & Marion Chalecki. Vince is the father of Vincent R. Chalecki of Kettering and loving grandfather to Vincent M. Chalecki of Tampa FL. He attended St. Adalbert School and Kiser High School, served in the U.S. Army as a Medic during WW II; at Normandy Beach on D. Day and was the recipient of 2 bronze stars and Croix-de Guerre. He was the owner and President of V.J.C., Inc. - Town & Country Sunoco, past president of the Sun Oil Dealers Association for State & National, on the Board of Directors for Retailers Gas Station Association, National Ryder Truck rental dealer of the year 1981. Vince was also on the City of Kettering City Council from 1981 to 1989, Vice Mayor of Kettering, Kettering Citizen of The Year in 1976, Grand Marshal of Kettering Holiday at Home in 1997, President of Miami Valley Military Affairs Association from 1985 to 1987, Kettering Chamber of Commerce President in 1986, on the Board of Directors – City of Kettering Parks & Recreation from 1996 to 2008, Member of Kettering Volunteers Fire Department Company 5 from 1960 to 1974, a member of Kettering Rotary, the American Legion, V.F.W. #9927 and AmVets. He was also a member of St. Charles Parish. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45429, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Inturnment David’s Community Mausoleum.
