

WILSON, Walter Magill, age 90, long time resident of St. Leonard retirement community, passed away peacefully in his cottage on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dottie Wilson, parents William and Fonda Wilson and siblings Carl, Aurabeth and Betty. He was survived by siblings Joseph (Jeanne) Wilson of CA and Hilda (Marvin) Hunt of FL. The loving husband of Dottie Wilson for 69 years; and father of Shirley (Dale) Koverman and Richard (Linda) Wilson, all of Kettering. Walt has 4 grandsons Doug Koverman, Mike (Pam) Koverman, Rickey Wilson and David Wilson; plus 9 great-grandchildren. A WWII Veteran of the US Army Air Corps, stationed in the Pacific 1943-46. He returned to Civilian Service at WPAFB; attended Air War College; awarded Outstanding Federal Employee in the Dayton Area in 1966; received two Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Awards for support provided to AF Units in Vietnam and AF Long Range Logistics Planning; and retired as a Certified Professional Logistician in 1976. Member of National Assoc of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1927 and American Legion Post 598. Walt served as officer for numerous Western Square and Round Dance Clubs; President of Miami Valley Dance Council. For 12 yr Walt and Dottie designed and made square dance badges. In 1986 they were elected Honor Couple of the Miami Valley Dance Council. In 1977 he accompanied Dottie to Japan for her dance with the Brother of Emperor Hirohito. In 1984 they danced around the world. As a charter member of Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren, he assisted in the construction, served on the board, and participated in the teachings. He was a member of the St Leonard Development Council; President of the Executive Resident Council for 3 yr; and created the closed circuit TV station to provide community news to the residents. Since 1992 they have called their cottage at St Leonard “home”. The longest time they spent apart were the 30 days between their deaths. Each died peacefully at home and now together forever. Dottie and Walt did everything together, hand in hand; so now their children are honoring them with a dual memorial service at David’s Cemetery Community Mausoleum, 4600 Mad River Rd., Kettering, OH 45429. Please join us in the Community Mausoleum this Sat. on Nov. 16, 2013. Memorial service with Military Honors will begin at 10:00 AM followed with visitation in the Gathering Room.
Wilson, Dorothy, a long time resident of St. Leonard retirement community, passed away peacefully in her cottage on Sunday, September 29, 2013. Preceded in death by her parents John and Helen Cauley and her siblings John, Ralph and Leanor. She was employed at the Standard Register Company during World War II. The loving wife of Walter Wilson for 69 years; and mother of Shirley (Dale) Koverman and Richard (Linda) Wilson, all of Kettering. Dottie has 4 grandsons Doug Koverman, Mike (Pam) Koverman, Rickey Wilson and David Wilson; plus 9 great-grandchildren. Dottie and Walt first met at a local skating rink in 1943 and eventually traded their skates for dance shoes. They were members of numerous square dance and round dance clubs. In 1986 they were elected Honor Couple of the Miami Valley Dance Council. They drove their RV to 49 states. In 1984 they accompanied a Square Dance Tour to China where she danced with the Brother of Emperor Hirohito. They danced around the world; square dancing at the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal. Dottie loved to sew. She was a volunteer for St. Leonard and Hospice; charter member of Prince of Peace Church and longtime member of Belmont United Methodist Church.
