

LONG, Wendell R., age 80, of Waynesville, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Hillspring Nursing Home. Wendell was born on January 7, 1933 in Ohio County, Kentucky to Elvis Ray Long and Alta Mae Dabney. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Darlene Lemaster Long; three daughters, Laurel Long of Nantucket MA, Lesley (Ralph) Long-Wysomierski of Cleveland, and Wendy (George) Beavers of Dayton; four grandchildren, Ocean & Willow Kane and Kelly & Kerry Beavers. Wendell graduated from Evansville University with a BA in 1955. He served in the Air Force active duty from 1955 to 1957 where he was stationed in Newfoundland and served in the reserves until honorably discharged in 1967. In 1959 he received his MBA at the University of Indiana. Wendell worked for Frigidaire until 1979 then worked with the Kettering Foundation until 1982 and later retired from Harrison Radiator, GM in 1988. He spent his retirement developing his hobby of photography, especially photographing Eastern Blue Birds. Many of his photos have been published in books and on the web.
