William T. “Tom” Johnson, age 71 of Dayton, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Kettering Medical Center. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marcia, and five children: Jessica (Bill) Houchins, Daniel (Shannon) Johnson, Paul (Beth) Johnson, Mark (Amy) Johnson and Luann Rogers. Twelve grandchildren also survive him: Kaitlyn Houchins, William Houchins, Toni Johnson, Erin Johnson, Shelby Starcher, Tyler Johnson, Scott Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Corey Johnson, Kelsey Johnson, Kristin Castle and Kaci Rogers and five great-grandchildren: Allen Nuse, Thomas Nuse, Tylan Stapleton, Hunter Stapleton and Scarlett Rae Leonard. He is also survived by four sisters: Penny Thomas, Debbie Logan, Sue Stamper and Gena Montgomery. Tom was a US Army Veteran, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from Waste Management in 2002 following 35 years of service. He was an outstanding example of a Christian and a member of First Church of the Open Bible; his faith made him a loving and deeply committed husband, father and grandfather. In his free time he enjoyed watching NASCAR and driving his 1978 Chevrolet truck. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM at the First Church of the Open Bible, 4990 Troy Pike, Dayton, OH 45424 on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 with Pastor Gary Petersen officiating. Friends may call at the church from 12 Noon until the time of the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
