Tears are falling in Centerville, Ohio, upon the departure of a loving, generous, dear, dear man who was called husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and lived life to the fullest. William Russell Thompson, known as “Bill” to those who knew him passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015, leaving indelible heart prints on his family members. May we, his family, carry on his tradition of love and kindness.
Bill, 61 years old, was born on September 20, 1953, in Stanford, Kentucky. At the “ripe old age” of one week Bill’s parents moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where Bill spent his “growing up” years. While pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement, Bill met the “love of his life.” Shortly after graduation Bill married Pamela Phillips, moved to Kettering, Ohio, and began his career at Oakwood Department of Public Safety. Bill had a firm sense of right and wrong making him a great fit for his career. For thirty-two years Bill worked at Oakwood rising to the rank of lieutenant. While working and raising two children with his wife of thirty-nine years Bill earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Dayton.
During the years and throughout his retirement Bill traveled across the world with Pam and his family. He had a real zest for doing something physical every day even on vacations. He loved the sports of tennis and golf. Another joy for Bill during retirement was being a grandfather celebrating with two grandsons. One little grandson would call to ask Grandpa to come over and play with him. Grandpa was always right there.
Bill is survived by his wife, Pam, of the home, his two children, a son, Jason, and wife Emily Thompson, a daughter, Rebecca, and her husband , Timothy Nicodemus, two grandsons, Roman Joe Lee, and Simon William Thompson, a sister, Jan Bower of McKinney, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Helen Thompson, and a niece Stacy Bower Heath.
