
Services for Mrs. Mary Sue Bateman Nester will be held Sunday, August 18 at 2pm at Union Hill Church in Kemper County. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Walt Tessier, Dr. Owen Gordon and Bro. Clay Farr will be officiating. Special music will be provided by Grace Gibson and Brenda Tessier.
Mrs. Nester, 87, of Macon (formerly of DeKalb) passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at John C. Stennis Memorial Hospital in DeKalb. She was a homemaker who loved her Lord, her church, her family and her country. She enjoyed reading and studying her Bible and could readily quote scripture. She believed in the power of prayer. She had a servant's heart who loved many and was loved by many.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Darnell (David), Rose Brownlee, Kay Outz (Wayne); sons, John Nester (Lynn) and Willie Nester (Julie).
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ellen Baltzell (Chuck), Emily Cade (Thomas), Matthew Darnell, Jodi Darnell, Beth Brownlee, Brett Outz, Cody Outz, Dalton Outz; Great Grandchildren, Falon Baltzell, Charlie Baltzell, Brooke Baltzell and Mason Cade, a very special family, Ernest and Brenda Holley, children and grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Nester was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rosa Bateman; husband, Leonard Nester; brother, Malcolm Bateman, sister-in-law, Mildred Bateman; and son-in-law, Jim Brownlee.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 6pm to 8pm at Stephens Funeral Home in DeKalb and one hour prior to service at church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Gideons or Union Hill Church.
