Merle was born in Alabama on February 4, 1938. She was married to Billy Collins Vaughan, the love of her life. After raising their children and completing her many years of service as an office manager at Caldwell Manufacturing Company, she and Billy retired and moved into their dream country lake house.
Affectionately named "The Clubhouse," they hosted many memorable family events and holiday gatherings there. Merle loved gathering her people together. During her time at the lake, she was in community in the East Colbert Church of Christ.
Merle was known for her nurturing personality and big heart. She was always ready with a warm smile, kind word, open door, and open arms. To know her was to love her.
Merle is survived by her son, Mark (Tammy) Vaughan, and daughter, Linda Lee (Michael) Swatzell, who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and generosity. She is also survived by her sister Claudette with whom she was very close. Merle was predeceased by her beloved son, David (Debbie)Vaughan, as well as her brothers, Tim, Bryce, and Byrd Isom, and her parents, Linda Norman Isom and Charles Isom. Her pride and joy were her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor Merle's life will be held on June 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Courtland City Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, Merle would have appreciated donations to Mercy Chefs, an organization close to her heart that embodies her love for feeding people and supporting those in need.
