
Charles Burnett Clemmons of Decatur, Alabama died June 2nd at the age of 101 . He was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on February 17, 1911, the son of Anna Jeffries Sellars Clemmons and Charles Palmer Clemmons.
A 1934 graduate of the University of Arkansas in Mechanical Engineering, he was co-owner of Pine Bluff Electrical Equipment and Foundry Company Foundry, and later worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal until he moved to Decatur 1957 to join the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center.
He was a member of Decatur First United Methodist Church for 55 years and in his later years attended Westmeade Baptist Church.
After his retirement he was an avid collector of model trains and antique clocks, continuing to collect and repair clocks well into his eighties. He never tired of listening to music of the '30's and '40's and in his last decade of life, delighted in dancing at the American Legion.
His curiosity and his enthusiasm for life will be missed by his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Louise Reagan, a native of Bauxite, Arkansas, and a talented artist and teacher in Pine Bluff. He is survived by daughters Ann Brown and husband Bill of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Jane Durbin and husband John of Austin, Texas, Virginia Goslin and husband John of Marietta, Georgia, and sister-in-law Jo Ann Clemmons of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Cathy Denmark and her family for their love and care for him in his later years.
A memorial service and burial will be at the Bellwood Cemetery in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Mr. Clemmons' name be made to Hospice of North Alabama or to Decatur First United Methodist Church.
