In his twenties and his thirties, Mr. Dyar worked as a truck driver for several companies, including Bowman. In the mid-1970s, Mr. Dyar and his wife made the decision to open their own business. They owned various North Alabama businesses over the years including gas stations in the Priceville, Somerville and Decatur areas. For over 20 years, Mr. Dyar and his wife owned and operated Ruby’s Gifts & Imports and Wicker Warehouse. His partner, wife and best friend, Ruby, passed away in 2004.
After the death of his wife, Mr. Dyar spent most of his time enjoying his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed flea markets, bluegrass music and found that he had a talent for repairing small machines and mowers. In 2013, he decided to leave the home that he shared with his wife and raised his children to move back closer to where he grew up in the Arab area. It was in his Joppa home that he began to make new memories with his grandchildren and to reunite with the friends of his youth.
In addition to his wife of 45 years Ruby Vest Dyar, he is preceded in death by his parents Henry Grady and Charlotte Viola Dyar, his sister Myra Moon and his brothers James “Boots” Dyar, Claude Dyar and Henry “June” Dyar.

He leaves behind his pride and joy, his grandchildren Nathan Filyaw (age 15) and Sadie Thomas (age 7). Mr. Dyar is also survived by his sister-in-law Lucille Dyar of Hueytown, surviving cousins, over 40 loving nieces and nephews, his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws from the Vest Family, his childhood friends and his former co-workers.
Pallbearers will include Monty Moon, Steve Dyar, Ray Ward, Eugene Vest, Roy Filyaw and Adam Filyaw. Mr. Dyar’s dear friend, Meredith Lott, will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
