
Funeral for Charles Edward Meinhardt Jr., 91, of Decatur will be Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. John J. Skelly officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Meinhardt, who died Saturday, February 4, 2012, at his residence, was born December 23, 1920, in Mobile to C.E. Meinhardt Sr. and LuLu Hines Meinhardt. He retired as an electrical technician for U.S. Army Research and Development Redstone Arsenal. He was a Master Mason serving in the Somerville Lodge No. 721 and a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sally Lu Robinson.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Christine Meinhardt; daughter, Regina Meinhardt Smith and husband, John O. Smith of Decatur; stepdaughter, Anita Baker and husband, Ed Baker of Rome, Ga.; two sisters, Orris Hines Meinhardt and Josephine McLeroy and husband, R.A. McLeroy of Decatur; grandchildren, Emily Smith Sargent of Hartselle, JuliAnna Smith and Jonathan Edward Smith, both of Decatur; stepgrandchildren, Jason Taylor of Madison and Kristin Kerce of Rome, Ga.; and great-grandchildren, Brayden Tanner Wright, Austin Kerce.
Pallbearers will be W.A. Friday, Jason Taylor, M.A. Ratliff, Mike Moore, Michael Robinson and John Robinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be L.O. Brown, Doyal Byrd, George Mills and Tommy Brannan.
Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Alacare Hospice or to a favorite charity .
