
Dan McPheeters Crane of Decatur died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the age of 81. He was born June 24, 1930 in Decatur to Tillman Gilbert Crane and Tallulah Allison Crane. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Mooty Crane.
Dan attended Riverside High School and was graduated from Auburn University with a degree in mechanical engineering. At Auburn, he was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Tau Beta Pi, and the Kappa Alpha Order. After serving four years as an officer in the United States Navy, he worked for Chemstrand Corporation and Monsanto before spending the remainder of his career at Amoco. Dan was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir, served on the session and taught Sunday school. He was also a member of the Decatur Rotary Club and was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 2008.
He is survived by: his children, Karen Crane Such (Asa Arthur Such), Dan McPheeters Crane, Jr. (Ruth Neighbors Crane), and David Edward Crane; two grandchildren, John Arthur Such and Virginia Sybil Such; and his brother, Tillman Gilbert Crane (Anne Coleman Crane).
Pallbearers will be Doug Sittason, Asa Such, Marty Kent, Danny Beggs, Rip Nabors, Tillman Crane, Kevin Burgreen, Don Scott and John Eyster.
Visitation will be Friday, October 21, 2011 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in the Westminster Room at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Westminster sanctuary. Officiating will be the Rev. Bruce Lancaster. Burial will follow at Decatur City Cemetery.
