Mr. Russell lived next door to my grandparents(deceased), and has helped work on our family's garden for as long as I can remember. I would see him running hay up and down the road in his gold truck all the time when I was little, and now as a 32 year old adult with my own child. He was a huge part of this community. We are so sorry for the loss of his life. He will be missed very much.

Sending our condolences,

I never forget something he shared in the Decatur daily about me. In 50 years of baseball he told the Decatur daily that I hit a homerun and the other teams coach came out and started yelling and said the homerun went foul. They eventually, him and charlie called the homerun foul. Next pitch I hit it dead centerfield over the scoreboard and Arnold looked at me and said Brent that wasn't foul. He said that was the best thing he has ever seen in all his years umpiring.
He also helped me as a newly married and as a new father helped me get my certificate to umpire to help me support my family. I spent alot of years in baseball with him and I miss him. Rest In peace with the worlds greatest umpire.

One of the best men I have ever had the pleasure of calling "friend". He is now calling the perfect game in the perfect stadium under perfect skies.

I played for Arnold over 40 years ago and have always remembered how he loved baseball and how he pushed us to get better as a player. Once we weren't running as hard as we should have been in practice so he took off his belt and followed behind us and if he caught you, you knew it! We loved it! He will be remembered fondly and we will be praying for the family.

I want to say how sorry I was to hear about your father. Due to my current job I will be traveling Sunday and will be unable to share my thoughts personally. I umpired with him for almost 40 years. I always enjoyed working with him because he was always able to teach me something about umpiring, baseball or life. I was always glad when the garden came in and for the tomatoes that came with that. His commitment to the kids will always be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
