Funeral for Elton E. McDonald, 89, of Decatur will be Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with Pastor Rob Jackson officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. McDonald, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, in Vestavia Hills, at his daughter's home surrounded by family. He was born March 1, 1921, in Hartford to John Lee and Laura Vickers McDonald. He was a member Central Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served in the military service with the United States Air Force from November 1942 to November 1945, including an overseas assignment in aircraft maintenance from February 1944 through August 1945. He also served in the United States Air Force from March 1952 to May 1953 as a Manpower Management and Organization Officer with Flying Training Air Force Headquarters, Waco, Texas. Mr. McDonald was a retiree of the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville as an Aerospace Engineering Supervisor and Deputy Chief of Product Evaluation in the Reliability and Assurance Office. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Nell Bryan McDonald; two sons, Jeff McDonald of Destin, Fla. and Brandon McDonald (Kimberly) of Birmingham; two daughters, Carol Powell (Phillip) of Vestavia Hills and Joye Musselman (Tom) of Seneca, S.C.; one brother, Max McDonald; two sisters, Hazel Harrison and Sybil Knight; nine grandchildren, and
seven great-grandchildren.
