Erich Layton McInnis, Jr. of Decatur, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. He was born March 20, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Columbus High School, Columbus, Georgia. He attended Auburn University prior to serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He entered Georgia Tech after his service in the military and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. He was a civilian employee with the department of the Air Force in Memphis, TN; moving to Alabama in 1958 to serve in various capacities with the Department f Army at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville until the establishment of the Marshall Space Flight Center in 1960. He concluded his career in July 1983 with NASA. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. His passion as time spent on the golf course with friends, creating stained glass creations and being wherever his family needed him. He is preceded in death by his parents Erich and Lula McInnis and his wife of 65 years Bonnie Ruth McInnis.
Left to cherish his memory, daughters Andrea Gibson and her husband Blake and Kimberly Wolfe and her husband Mitch. Son Erich “Rick” McInnis and his wife Melissa. Grandchildren Erica McInnis, Melissa McInnis Torrez and her husband Tony, Will Gibson, Lee Wolfe, Rebecca Wolfe and Kristin Wolfe. Great grandchildren Amyah Torrez and Layton Torrez.
Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, at 12 Noon at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday at 11:00 am until 12 Noon at Roselawn Funeral Home. Mr. McInnis will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Reed Patterson, Mitch Wolfe, Lee Wolfe, Blake Gibson, Will Gibson and Parker Reed, Jr. Memorial n Erich Layton McInnis name may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Central United Methodist Church.
