Everett "Ev" Abbott, 83, died February 11, 2013. He was born March 5, 1929, in Millville, N.J. to Hartford and LuVivey Abbott. Living most of his childhood in Westville, N.J. attending Woodbury High School where he met his future wife, Thora "Pat" Powell. They married in 1949, and were married for 48 years until her death in 1997. Before his employment with Hercules, Ev worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Johns-Mansfield and the Department of Defense.
In the early 1950's, he started his career with Hercules Inc. in Gibbstown, N.J. In 1964, Ev was transferred to Hercules, California, the start of many transfers in his career including Eastover, S.C., Montreal Canada, Wilmington, Del., Hattiesburg, Miss., Kenvil, N.J., and ending his career in Decatur.
Ev, throughout his lifetime, worked various volunteer programs, New Jersey Fire Dept., Girl Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, Rodeo Swim Club in California. When he moved to Decatur, he was involved with the Burningtree Country Club serving as president and helping with the Spirit of America Golf Tournament.
He and Pat loved traveling and playing golf. Occasionally taking a little drive ending up spending the night wherever at the end of the ride. He also enjoyed gardening and reading, spending time with his grandchildren and hearing about their activities and accomplishments.
Ev is preceded in death by his parents, Hartford and LuVicey Abbott; his wife, Pat; and grandson, Phillip Patrick Abbott.
Survivors include daughters, Susan Ashlock of Mulvane, Kan., Robin Moczulski (Mark) of Yountville, Calif., and Sherry Abbott of Decatur; grandchildren include Tema Travis (Scott), Amanda Ashlock (Eugene), Jennifer Gomes (Matt) and Eric Moczulski; great-grandchildren, Axton Travis, Aidyn Travis, Alyjah Travis, Matison Gomes, Marcus Gomes and Pollux Good; sisters-in-law, Virginia Keen (Larry) and Nancy Powell; and nephew, David Keen (Melissa). Also, his beloved buddy, Sparky.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations in Ev's name be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association .
Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with private family burial on Friday.
