Frank Woodson Shafer Jr.

Frank Woodson Shafer, Jr., 90, of Decatur passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Visitation will be on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Shafer was preceded in death by his parents Frank Woodson Shafer Sr. & Flora Authur Shafer, and his siblings: Corrine Smith, Kenneth Shafer, & Peggy Flannigan

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sara Jo Shafer, daughters: Debra Tucker and Deanna Crow, grandchildren: Kim White-Morris (Brandon), Stefanie Spence (Jimmy), Christie White, and Justin Stutts (Deanna), and great grandchildren: Kaylea Morris, Taylor Cleek, Destin Stutts, Luke Fitzgerald, Cody White, Hayden Spence, Trent Stutts, Makenna Jones, Savanna Jones, and Adalyn Jones.

Mr. Shafer attended the first class of the new Decatur High School and received his diploma in 1951. He was a Military Police officer during the Korean War stationed in Seoul Korea. He received several medals and decorations during his service. Mr. Shafer joined the Decatur Police Department in 1955 and retired as Chief of Police in August 1996. He attended the FBI Academy in 1976. He will be missed by his family and friends.
