Mr. Smith was born April 1, 1928, to Arthur and Bessie Smith in Danville. A retired machinist, he was a member of The Alabama National Guard, Hartselle, and served in the Korean War. He was a member of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rolf Smith and Guy Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mavis J. Smith; one daughter, Barbara L. Long of Brownsboro; three sons, Gary D. Smith and Dennis L. Smith, both of Decatur, and Bobby D. Smith of Richland, Wash.; grandchildren Nicholas J. Long, Andrea K. Partridge, Jared E. Smith, Robert N. Smith, Erin M. Smith, Hannah L. Smith and Sarah K. Smith; great-grandchildren Jeremy Long, Katie Partridge, Paisley Smith and Kinley Smith; and one sister, Nelene Spillers of Decatur.
Funeral service will be today, Feb. 19, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Roselawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m.
