
Monday, October 15, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Decatur from noon until 2 pm. Service to follow with internment
at 4pm at the Shoemaker Cemetery in Moulton. She was born on September 27, 1917. Hattie Maude was a life-long resident
of Morgan County. After graduating from high school, Hattie Maude attended Athens State College where she received her BS
degree in Elementary for tqwenty-five years. throughout her life Hattie Maude was an active member of the United Methodist
Church both in the North Alabama Conference. A charter member of Memorial Drive United Methodist from its inception in
1030 until its closing in 2003, she was church historian and an active memver of the United Methodist Women, holding offices
at the church, district, and conference level. An avid historian, Hattie Maude served for eight years as the Chairperson of the
North Alabama Conference of Archives and History and as a board member of the Southeast Jurisdiction Historical Society
of the United Methodist Church. Since childhood, Hattie Maude has been involved with various community organizations in
Decatur, beginning with 4H Club, Girl Scouts, and continuing through her adult years as a 60 year member of the Questers
Club, a 20 year member of the AAUW book Club, and asan officer in the Morgan County Retired Teacher's Association.
A gracious hostess, Hattie Maude loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and with her
many friends. Whether traveling, gardening, reading, or researching her many genealogical interests, Hattie Maude took delight in the beauty of the world and the love of her family and friends. Hattie Maude was preceded in death by husband John Yancy
Vaughan; father, Edmund Burke Hames; mother Maude Olivia Lamon Hames; brother, Auburn Burke Hames; sisters,
Salie Mae Hames Hanson Wescott and Martha Hames Safley; and one grandson, Robert James Boland. She is survived by
daughter, Marye Vaughan Boland Moore (Paul) of Pascagoula, Mississippi; son John Vaughan (Beverly) of Decatur and
Paul Vaughan of Shreveport, Louisiana; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. our
