A Celebration of Life will be Monday, April 27, 2015, at Roselawn Funeral Home with Visitation from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45pm prior to the service. Irene will then be put to rest in Roselawn Cemetery next to her husband of 52 years. Nephews and grandsons will be pallbearers.
Irene was born in 1924 in Decatur, Alabama to George and Johnnie Little. She came to know her Savior at an early age and was always active in church. She met and married the love of her life, Melvin Spencer Wells on June 14, 1946, and they became parents to son, Spencer, and daughter Jennifer.
Her Christian testimony showed that her greatest joy in life was the daily fellowship she shared with her Lord, her family and friends. Irene certainly was a blessing to all who knew and loved her. She was greatly admired for her unselfish care of her husband for 23 long years after he suffered a serious stroke.
Irene retired with 29 years of service with the Child Nutrition Program, Decatur City Board of Education, where she served as the Lunchroom Manager. She loved life and was appreciative to River City Bible Church, the Turner Surles Senior Center, The Mature Life of Parkway Medical Center, and Life Style of Decatur General Hospital for the support they provided her over the many years of her participation.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Carlisle Little and Edwin Little, sisters Eugenia Little and Ada Schrimsher, son-in-law Rayford Hester, and sister-in-law Dorothy Little Barnes.
Survivors include brother Louie Little (Judy) of Decatur, brother-in-law Rudy Schrimsher of Decatur, sister-in-law Nita Terry of Decatur, son Spencer (Michele) of Decatur; daughter Jennifer of Crawfordsville, FL; grandchildren Spencer Wells, Jr. (Ashley) of Richmond, VA; Steven Wells (Ashley) of Decatur, AL; Timothy Hester, Memphis, TN; and Stephanie Ellis (Andy) of Tallahassee, FL; 5 great-grandchildren: Hazel Wells, Hattie Wells, Sam Wells, Sydney Grace Ellis, Barron James Ellis, and Bridges Ray Ellis and numerous nieces and nephews.
A heart felt thank you goes out to the River City Center Staff and to Shennika Allen-Irons of Comfort Care Hospice for their loving care to Irene and to all her friends and family who took the time out of their busy schedules to visit and spend quality time with her.
