Funeral for James "Jim" Sawyer, 66, of Decatur will be Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Mann officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 to 9 at the family's residence, 158 Hamaker Street SW, Decatur.
Mr. Sawyer, who died Monday, June 14, 2010, at Decatur General Hospital, was born October 29, 1943, in Pawtucket, R.I. to James J. Sawyer and Gertrude Quintin Gagnon. Jim retired as a first sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a Roman Catholic. He enjoyed boating, grilling and was a Harley enthusiast. His father, James J. Sawyer; and brother, Jeffrey W. Gagnon, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Elizabeth Sawyer; two sons, Brian and Crystal Sawyer and Barry and Kim Sawyer; three daughters, Marion and Ike Mann, Myra Sawyer and Sharon and Michael Sloup; mother, Gertrude Quintin Gagnon; stepson, Billy Kirby; sister, Sharon Gagnon Tardif and her husband, Ron; sister-in-law, Cathy Choquet Gagnon; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
