Janice Ann (Hornbuckle) Allison

Janice Ann Hornbuckle Allison, 86, of Decatur, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on June 19, 2025. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 on Monday, June 23 at Roselawn Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Albright officiating. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Gardens of Memory.

Janice is survived by her children, Elizabeth Young of Hartselle, Alabama and John Allison of Decatur. She leaves behind two grandchildren, John Allison and Eliza Jane Allison. She was preceded in death by her husband W. Thomas Allison, her father, Harry Hornbuckle, her mother Mildred Rich Hornbuckle, and her sister Bettye Hill.

Janice was born August 28, 1938 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. She spent her early childhood in Huntsville, Alabama and moved to Decatur at the age of 12. She graduated from Decatur High school in 1956, and received her B.A. in theater from Howard College (now Samford University) in 1960. She taught speech and drama first at Fairfield High School and then at Decatur High School from 1962-1966. She married W. Thomas Allison on June 6, 1965, and gave birth to her daughter Beth in 1967, and her son John in 1971. She taught preschool at Central Park Baptist in Decatur from 1986-2003.

Janice was a devout Christian and was active in Southside Baptist Church, where she taught all ages of Sunday School classes. She was a leader of Christian Women's Club, Friendship Bible Coffees, Kappa Kappa Iota teacher's sorority and Four Seasons Garden Club. Janice enjoyed travel with friends and family. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and cooking. She loved her dogs. Janice will be remembered for her sweet nature, her loving heart and her strength of faith.

Pallbearers will be Ray Cox, Sam Ward, Terry Glover, Tommy Sharp, John Sharp and Jeff Sharp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, the Alzheimer's Association, and the Morgan County Humane Society.
