

Jasper Carl (J.C.) Roberts, of Decatur Alabama, passed away on May 26,2026. Visitation will be on Monday, June 1, 2026 from 12pm to 1pm at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, Alabama. The Celebration of Life service will immediately follow the visitation at Roselawn Chapel with Scott Delashaw officiating. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
J.C is survived by his two children, daughter Suzanne McAnear (Tim), and son Jay Roberts, grandchildren Matthew Baldwin (Hannah), Seth McAnear, and Ella Haywood (Joshua), great-granddaughter Margaret Haywood, sister Shirley Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
J.C. is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Bowling Roberts. He is also preceded in death by his father, Jasper Jewel Roberts, mother, Mae Delashaw Roberts, and sister Carolyn Parker.
J.C. was employed at Bellsouth for 38 years and served as a toll test board technician before retiring in 1995.
J.C was an avid sports fan and devoted several years to sports. He was a talented athlete who played both football and basketball. During his athletic career he was awarded with several honors including Most Valuable Player 1955-1956, was the 3rd All-Star player selected to play in the North-South basketball game hosted by the University of Alabama, and was elected into the All-County, All-District, and All-State teams. He was awarded a scholarship to play basketball for Athens College. JC. also contributed time to sports by coaching Pop Warner youth basketball and football in the City of Decatur. J.C was inducted into the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
J.C. was an incredible man adored by his family. He took pride in maintaining an active role in his children and grandchildren’s lives. He could always be found in the stands supporting his family at any event. His favorite pastime was relaxing in his recliner watching either football or MASH reruns and doing crossword puzzles.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Baldwin, Seth McAnear, Joshua Haywood, Warren McLemore, Morris Grammar, and Robert Grammar.
