Funeral service for Jerry Mitchell, 80, will be Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 3:00pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Eddie Scheler officiating with burial in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.
Mr. Mitchell died on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at his residence surrounded by loved ones. He was born June 17, 1934, in Russellville to William D. Mitchell and Chestina McCulloch Mitchell. He was retired from the Alabama Air National Guards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, and one niece.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Dunnavent Mitchell, daughter, Margaret(James) Couch, son, Jason Mitchell, grandchildren, Christopher(Lana) Williams, Katie(Michael) Barnette, and Liz(Roger) Hayes, and great-greatchildren, Caden Williams, Ethan, Olivia, and Anna Claire Barnette, and Garrett and Hattie Hayes.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Williams, Michael Barnette, Roger Hayes, Bill Mitchell, Warren Dunnavent, and Justin Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Tayes and Buddy Ratliff.
