John Newbill, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 7, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Following the visitation, the family will have a private memorial service.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sylvia Shumake Newbill; daughter, Mary Beth Newbill Spraul; son in law, Anton Spraul; granddaughter, Madeline Spraul and sister in law, Diane Dublin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Audry Newbill; his son and brother.
John was a graduate of Birmingham Southern College, and served as the chief accountant at Athens State University. He was a skillful woodworker, writer and storyteller with an incredible sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Home for Children, or a charity of your choice.
