Johnnie Gilliland Stewart

She is survived by her daughter, Stacie (Shane) Rust; sisters, Sonja (Danny) Hyatt and Audrey Hubbard; grandchildren, Starr Rust and Kamdon Stewart, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Winfred Stewart Jr.; her mother, Gladys French Gilliland and father, John Hughie Gilliland.

Johnnie grew up in Mudtavern where her home adjoined her grandparents’ farm which was the site of an excavated Indian mound, The Indian Mound Farm. She met her future husband, Eugene Stewart and they took many walks searching for relics on that mound. They soon married and she helped him work on a log cabin he had recently relocated.

She was generous with her time and energy. She was a caretaker side by side with her mother when her father suffered for a decade with ALS. Her mother lived with Johnnie and her husband Gene for near a decade. She was the family historian and helped identify the people in pictures. She enjoyed spending time with her precious grandson, Kamdon. Johnnie will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Pallbearers will be Warren Hubbard, Ray Aldridge, Brian Hyatt, Jacob McGuire, and Shane Rust.
