

Johnny Ray Atkins, age 87, beloved husband, father, granddaddy, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at NHC in Moulton.
Born November 1, 1937, in Somerville, Alabama, Johnny was the sixth of eight children born to Odie and Emma Atkins. He graduated from Priceville High School in 1956, where he excelled in mathematics and basketball. Johnny went on to enjoy a long and successful career as a quality control engineer with 3M, where he worked until his retirement.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Syble Atkins; three daughters, Tina Atkins, Alison Stowers (Kris), and Monica Cottingham (Brad); three stepsons, Phillip Woodruff (Daphne), Scott Woodruff (Teresa), and Todd Woodruff (Leah); grandchildren, Jordan Walker (Nick), Luke Stowers (Rebecca), Austin Stowers (Katelyn), Landon Cottingham, Greg Woodruff, Haley Chandler (Austin), Abbigail Burchfield (Jackson), and Luke Woodruff; and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Caleb Walker, Harrison, Hadley, David and Nathan Stowers and Kynley Woodruff. He is also survived by sisters Macle Thornton, Sue Breeding (Raymond), and Patsy Carter (Jackie); sister-in-law Jane Atkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Hollan, Ralph, and Bobbie Carl Atkins; sister Margie Whitt; brothers-in-law Marvin Whitt and Eugene Thornton; sister-in-law Imogene Atkins; and grandson Michael Woodruff.
Johnny was an avid golfer and lifelong sports fan, and a proud inductee in the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame, but more than anything, he was devoted to his family. He especially found joy in his grandchildren and loved every moment spent with them. He never met a stranger, loved to make others laugh, and was always ready to visit friends and family. His sense of humor, kindness and steadfast love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home with graveside services and burial to follow. Dr. Kris Stowers to officiate. Visitation will be held at Roselawn prior to the funeral service from 12:00 until 2:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be Scott Woodruff, Brad Cottingham, Landon Cottingham, Jackie Carter, Luke Stowers and Austin Stowers. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Woodruff, Todd Woodruff, Luke Woodruff, Nick Walker, Raymond Breeding, and beloved nephews and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Johnny’s name to Meals on Wheels or the charity of your choice.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of NHC in Moulton for their compassionate care and to Enhabit Hospice, who has provided invaluable help every step of the way.
Johnny’s family finds peace knowing he has gone home to be with the Lord, reunited with those he loved who went before him. His life was a testament to faith, family, and friendship, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
