Dr Rudell was a 1971 graduate of Decatur High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Auburn University in 1976 and later received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Samford University in 2001. The majority of her professional career was spent caring for the patients of Decatur Morgan Hospital for 43 years as a Staff Pharmacist and Clinical Coordinator of the Pharmacy Department. Judy also volunteered as a pharmacist for several years in The Community Free Clinic of Decatur. Judy precepted Auburn University Pharmacy Students for over 30 years, mentoring many young pharmacy students with her vast knowledge, positive attitude, and demonstrating excellence in providing the best pharmacy services to all patients entrusted with her care.
Dr Rudell is survived by her son, Adam Rudell, of Decatur and many many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude Richard Aycock, Jr. and Sue Daly Aycock, also of Decatur.
Dr Rudell was a Life Member of the Auburn Alumni Association, having recently been inducted into the Golden Eagles, a special section of Auburn Alumna for graduates of 50 years or more. Dr Rudell was a member of Austinville United Methodist Church. Previously she was a member of 9th Street United Methodist Church in Decatur.
No one loved Auburn more than Judy. She was an Auburn woman to the core of her soul, attending sporting events and supporting her beloved alma mater financially in many different areas. She lived her life as close to the Auburn Creed as any alumna ever could; Judy embodied A Spirit That Was Not Afraid. She never missed a game, whether it was football, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, softball, you name it, if Auburn was competing, and Judy could be there, she was there. Judy was kind and generous to her friends, who became her family, and everyone was welcome at her table. She laughed with her whole body and had the best sense of humor. And her love of animals was shown by her quiet support of several animal shelters all over the state of Alabama. Judy’s charisma, faith in God, empathy, and acts of kindness were admired by many. Judy inspired everyone who came in contact with such a delightful person.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur. A Celebration of Judy’s Life will follow at 3:00pm, with Jeff Sellers officiating. Judy will be laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Committee on Church Cooperation (CCC) or the Decatur Animal Shelter.
