Funeral for Luther Levi Smith, 79, will be Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Chandler officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Smith died August 14, 2010, at his residence after a short illness. He was born April 13, 1931, in Morgan County to Luther Orville and Elizabeth Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, retired from Fruehauf Corp. and Decatur City School Transportation Department and was a member of Grant Street Church of Christ. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather who never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Roberts Smith; two sons, Roger and wife, Karen, Smith of Deatsville, and Barry and wife, Lori, Smith of Alexandria; one daughter, Amy Sanders and husband, Brantley, of Birmingham; two brothers, Ray and wife, Pauline, Smith of Moulton, and Wayne and wife, Janet, Smith of Decatur; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Terry Gardner, Jeff Britnell, Jay Roberts, Tim McAnar, Todd Roby and Randy Cavnar.
