I was a member of the Decatur Amateur Radio Club back in the 90's and served with Lloyd during bad weather. I also served during the snow when we shuttled Doctors, Nurses, Dialysis patients, plus others around in town to their jobs & appointments. I will never forget when he dispatched me out to Toluca to pick up a family of 5 in my standard cab 4 wheel drive pickup. They had no heat or food in the house and I brought them back into Hartselle to a motel.
Many people don't know what kind of service ham's have done to help our community but the people we have helped were very appreciative. Lloyd was a leader in DARC and I am proud to have known him and worked with him!

Lloyd was my father John Dean's first cousin on his mother's side of the family. When my Daddy passed away in 2013 Lloyd came to the funeral with his wife and brought Russell and his wife with him. It meant so much to my sister and me that they were there. After that Lloyd and I talked on the phone many times and we arranged a trip to Hanceville with several cousins so that Lloyd could show us some special landmarks that were of interest to our family. He made copies of paperwork tracing our ancestry and shared it with all of us. We had a wonderful time. My sister and I visited him at his home and he shared his love for short wave radio with us. Another time he called to tell me he had photos of my dad he wanted to share with me. He was so nice to me and I will never forget his kindness to me after the loss of my Dad!! Rest in Peace Lloyd! You will be missed!!!
