Teresa & Shawn, my heart aches for you and your family.  Mark was so loved by many he was a very special man, enjoyed entertaining all, and was a highly intelligent individual.  He always had a humorous story to tell, was an awesome cook and willing to show off his latest culinary talent or cooking hardware, or wanting to go on an adventure somewhere.  Mark and I met at work on Delta many years ago in the early 90's and I considered him my Florida older brother at that time.  I remember many fun times with Mark many lunches at work, SCUBA Dive trips to the Keys, lobster diving in West Palm & Ft Pierce, buying his old boat (which I still have!), buying his old car and selling it back to him years later, some awesome English Halloween Parties, camping and motor biking the Mojave Desert in CA, helping me install a new hot tub at my 1st house and helping me paint that same house.  I know he did many fun things with the two of you and he loved you and was very proud of you both!  
My own father passed at a young age as welljust a few years older than Mark and I was Shawn's age at the time.  I too was very close to my father and it was one of the most painful experiences to lose him so early in life.  I know this may sound trivial at this time, but time will heal the deep pain you are experiencing now.  I know there are many memories of your dad that will bring many smiles to your faces over the many years to come.  Happy memories of your dad will live on forever and he will continue to entertain!
Here are a few words that helped me through some difficult times and I hope they may comfort you as well... it is called

I had the pleasure and honor of working closely with Mark for years, and he was greatly admired and respected by all.  His "Go for Launch" attitude was infectious and his energy was well known throughout the launch community. 

I wish I could express to each of his family members just how much he meant to us; and I hope the messages you read here will give you some idea of his worth, and his respect, and how much we miss Mark now, and into the future.

Mark was a great friend and a excellent engineer.  His expertise has been a part of Delta's success since he hired in.  Anyone who spoke to him at all knew how much he loved his kids.  He'll be missed!

I had the pleasure of working with Mark beginning in 1991 on Delta II. We shared many job tasks and had a similar sense of humor.  My favorite memory was when Mr. Engleesh (my name for him) would imitate the distinctive laugh of our respected GSE lead engineer Jack Van. Mark led an interesting life with a range of highs and lows. I recall our discussion about his plans to explore other jobs (such as Kwajalein) when we were TDY at SLC-2, and I encouraged him to follow through and expand his horizons, which he did. As stated in so many other guest book condolences, Mark was truly an unforgettable, humorous, knowledgeable, adventurous, full of life human being that I will always have fond memories of.

I met Mark while working on Delta II at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.  He also was very helpful in showing me around the area on my first trip to Vandenberg, AFB in 1995.  Mark was always an upbeat guy.  He will be missed.  Gloria Brickner/Behling

Thinking back now I recall when Mark, I and several friends, one of which was a SUBA dive instructor, decided to teach Mark how to dive on the way to the Florida Keys. For eights hours we taught him everything he needed to know about open water diving. By the end of the trip he was a certified diver. Mark was a great guy and a great friend, he will be missed. I'll smoke my next cigar with you Mark...

I first met Mark though my cousin that worked with him. For the past 6-7 years i couldnt wait till hunting season to hang out with him, and hear his stories, and him carrying on with my son's. We will deeply miss him, and Prayers go out to his family

Mark is my dad.  I cannot put into words how much my dad means to me & how painful his passing is for our family. Dad & I were very close and just this morning I smiled & cried when I looked through his phone and saw my name at the top of his Most Frequent Outgoing Calls.  The earliest memory I ever had in life was Mark sitting me on his lap when I was 4yrs old and saying, "Teresa, I want to talk to you about something important.  I know you may not understand, but I'm not your biological father, but I really want to be your dad.  I promise to take care of you and be your dad forever if you want me to be?"  Even being that young I understood exactly what he was saying and answered with a big "YES" as I wanted him to be my dad so badly.  He said, "Good, then its settled, I'm your Dad! I love you very much".  I looked at him and said "I love you too Mr. Mark" and he smiled and said no call me dad remember?" He kept that promise to me.               

It makes me so happy to read all of the stories and hear about how fond people were of my dad. He was so funny & always wanted to make sure people around him were having a good time.  He has struggled for a very long time and especially in the last few years. I pray that he is out of the darkness and watching that sunrise he was searching for.  My last words to him were "I love you so much dad" and he said "I love you too baby".  I will carry those words, him & our memories with me for the rest of my life.  Rest in Peace Dad.

I worked with Mark in 2003 and 2004 in Huntsville, Vandenberg and Kwajalein, and I enjoyed it very much.  I recall his sense of humor and he was fun to be around.  So sorry to hear of his passing.  I would like to express my condolences to his family in this extremely difficult time.

Mark was an excellent EE and troubleshooter. I remember the bachelor party at Marks place for Dave Wellman, riding his new KTM down the street and that white Chevy truck when he finally installed the hangers I got for him to lower the back end. He was easily nauseated when we flaunted our knowledge of the old Blockhouse airflow and had a great sense of humor. I am shocked he is gone, we are the same age. He will be missed.

I first met Mark at Cape Canaveral working on the Delta II program. He was always fun to work with and had great technical aptitude. Subsequently I had the opportunity to work with him again on the Delta IV program both at Cape Canaveral and Decatur Production Operations. In all instances he was a good to work with and could always make me laugh about something. He will be missed.

Mark is my father in law. It was entertaining to hear Mark's funny stories, usually involving his brothers or friends. You could tell he loved sharing memories that made people laugh, and he'd get more excited when the 'good part' got closer. 
I still laugh thinking of when he visited us for our first Thanksgiving out in California. Shawn was in the kitchen cooking, and Mark stood in the kitchen with him, watching Shawn's every move and telling him how to do everything!   
I'm glad he got time to spend with his grandson, Wesley. He is an important part of our family and will be truly missed. When he first said "I love you" to me, that was very special.

Teresa & Shawn, my heart goes out to you guys, Royce & Carolyn and the entire English family!  I cannot begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing Mark but I know he gave us a beautiful daughter.  I am sure I would have enjoyed fishing with him.  My sincere condolences to Teresa and the rest of his Family and Friends.

I remember Mark mostly from my early career days at McDonnell Douglas, when he was in my immediate work group.  He was a great co-worker and had an upbeat personality which lifted the spirits of all around him.  My prayers are with his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you through this time. Mark and I met as the 2nd shift test team on GMD in 2003, working in Huntsville and then following the vehicle to VAFB (Lompoc, CA). He was a great guy to work with and our team had a lot of fun. I will always remember the time he was brave (or silly) enough to move a sleeping rattlesnake away from the entrance to our lab with a couple of sticks he found in the brush.

Mark...aka "Pops" was truly one of a kind.  I have never met anyone that was so full of life and adventure.  He always had an abundance of stories and tall tales that he loved to share with his friends.  From "Brown Eyed Girl" to "Bush Stuck in the Car Door", he always kept us laughing and longing for more.

There was never a dull moment when working with Mark.  Mark was my engineering mentor and taught me almost everything I know about the Delta IV rocket.  Whenever I had a question, he was always ready to answer, with the same response...."Son, now listen....this is what you do."  

Every memory I have of Mark is truly special to me.  He was a great coworker and amazing friend to have in my life.  I will forever be grateful for everything that Mark has done for me and will always miss him dearly.

My thoughts and prayers are with the English and Haake families. Mark touched many lives as I can tell by the outpouring of condolences I have received from just knowing Mark!. Mark could tell a story like no other! He lived many different lives thoughout his career with Mcdonnel Douglas/Boeing/United Launch Alliance around the country. I was very lucky to have been able to work closely with Mark these last 8 years with ULA. Not only the personal times but the work related times Mark suprised me with his expertise in our related field. Always the Catalyst for adventure Mark will be missed by all! Sincerely, Rik

I worked with Mark during a 12 year period and enjoyed the camaraderie during our Kwajalein Atoll assignments. I'll never forget the day we went deep sea fishing and how he was so excited to use a new lure. Only after a few minutes of trolling off Bigej Island he snagged a nice Ono and after a few turns on the rod the fish jumped out of the water with a shark in tow. There went his nice brand new lure in the belly of a shark. He took it well with his usual wry sense of humor. Rest in peace Mark, it was an honor to know and work with you.

Teresa and Shawn and family, Mark will be greatly missed.  He always had a joke and a wicked sense of humor.  He was so proud and loved you both so very much. I will certainly miss his smile, laugh and his ornery ways!
