Mildred Weaver Garnett, age 96, peacefully passed into her heavenly home on September 29, 2025.
Born on November 30, 1928, in Limestone County, Alabama, Mildred Geneva was the daughter of Samuel Edward Rigel and Daisy Ezma Rigel. She was raised on a farm alongside her large Christian family, one of the youngest among 13 children.
At 15, Mildred married William Lonnie Weaver Sr. on her birthday—November 30, 1943. She lovingly cared for Lonnie Sr. until his passing in 1979.
Mildred began her working life at Lee’s Dress Shop in Decatur and later pursued a career in real estate. After obtaining her license in Birmingham, she joined Star Realty and eventually moved back to Decatur in 1981 to work at Weaver Realty—a family company that still thrives more than 50 years later.
A woman of deep faith, Mildred was a devoted member of Central Baptist Church in Decatur for an incredible 82 years. She faithfully attended her Sunday School class and also enjoyed being part of the Decatur Garden Club and the Business and Women’s Professionals.
Later in life, Mildred found love again and married her “Prince Charming,” Lakin Lovin Garnett, on July 5, 1991. They shared many happy years together until his passing in 2016.
In 2013, Mildred was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and courageously faced the challenges of memory loss in her later years. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to her compassionate nurses—Sarah Huff and Julie Stutts—and the dedicated staff of Southern Care New Beacon Hospice for their loving care. Special thanks also to the staff at Summerford Nursing Home for watching over our beloved “Gigi” with such kindness.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her first husband, W. Lonnie Weaver Sr.; her second husband, Lakin Garnett; and her son, Edward Harrison Weaver.
She is survived by her son, Lonnie Weaver Jr. (Sandra) of Decatur; grandchildren Wendye Eady (Brandon) of Decatur, Dawn Montgomery (Trai) of Decatur, and Mike Weaver (Emily) of Charlotte, NC; and great-grandchildren Drake Montgomery, Dylan Montgomery, Jordan Terry (Eady), Tyler Eady, Jena Eady, and Jack Weaver.
